DR. JOHN SHIELDS

Dr. John Shields

Dr. John Shields received his medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed a three year surgical residency at NYU Langone Health, where he served as chief resident, published research in peer-reviewed journals, and trained under leading experts in foot and ankle surgery. As a result of his training, Dr. Shields is well-versed and highly skilled in the treatment of areas including, but not limited to, correction of forefoot and rearfoot deformities, tendinopathy management, limb salvage, diabetic wound care, nail and skin pathology, and sports medicine.

Dr. Shields’ approach to podiatric medicine is to bring clarity to the problems his patients face by providing them with information and explanations that allow them to be active participants in their care. Using comprehensive examinations, testing, and imaging technology to understand an injury or pathology is part of any doctor’s job, but Dr. Shields’ places significant emphasis on genuine doctor-patient communication to remove the anxiety and uncertainty from the patient experience. He approaches each day with the goal of having his patients leave the clinic feeling at-ease, empowered, and confident in their treatment.

In his free time, Dr. Shields enjoys cooking, and is an avid weightlifter and sneaker collector. He is confident in his footwear knowledge and welcomes consultations from patients for guidance in shoe gear choices for athletic activities, casual use, or pathology-specific needs.
